Who
In the context of the GREEN DESIGN FESTIVAL 2010, the hosts, BRAINLAB, a non-profit culture company, sought the assistance of Α&Μ ARCHITECTS for the implementation of the festival’s central structures. BRAINLAB’s objective is the creation, organization, overseeing and implementation of original and innovative individual or collective cultural actions. Its fields of activity relate to different areas of culture, such as architecture, graphic design, industrial design, photography, video and street-art.
What
Α&Μ ARCHITECTS supported the construction needs of the GREEN DESIGN FESTIVAL 2010 by implementing a temporary eco-friendly construction composed of recyclable and environmentally friendlymaterials, like wood and metal. The ECO MUSEUM served as an exhibition space and hosted exhibits by more than 150 designers. It showcased the effects of climate change by utilizing renewable and alternative energy sources.
Where
Syntagma Square served as the central installation platform of the GREEN DESIGN FESTIVAL 2010. This was made possible with the construction of a singular “ECO MUSEUM” designed by Konstantinos Hoursoglou. The idea was based on an eco-friendly recyclable structure, designed to host exhibitions, activities, events and educational programs. The ECO MUSEUM included a green auditorium and a stage. The installation and use of solar panels covered most of the Green Design Festival’s energy needs.
When
The GREEN DESIGN FESTIVAL 2010, organized by BRAINLAB, was open to the public from September 22 to October 10, 2010. Α&Μ, in order to bst assist this effort, co-ordinated all construction activities in such a way that all structures would be assembled within 48 hours and disassembled within 12 hours. The collective effort by participants was deemed an unprecedented success with regards to the number of visitors. The festival also received favourable reviews in the press.
