The Piraeus Tower measures 30.000 sq.m in total area size, 84 m. height and 22 storeys. This is one of the country’s landmark buildings and is located at the port’s entrance, thus having a significant commercial value. It was designed in 1970 by architects Vikelas, Molfessis and Loizos with the objective of turning the building into a commercial and shipping hub. For 38 years it remained unfinished and took the name “Sleeping giant”. Its construction began in 1972. In 1983, glass and metal panels were attached to its exterior surface. Only the first three floors have been used so far and the remaining ones remain unfinished. On the occasion of an architectural competition for a remodelling of the Tower’s façade, the Α&Μ office proposed a new façade design, drawing inspiration from the sea and port.
